Profile & Expertise

COC CATALONIA is a coordinating body of public chambers of commerce representing economic interests of market stakeholders of Catalonian regions and cities. The chambers support merchants, industrialists and shipping companies of Catalonia through a wide range of actions such as proposing measures to the government, providing advisory services, managing public services and infrastructures, commercial promotion, and conducting research and statistical analysis. Reflecting the importance of raw materials recycling in its region, COC CATALONIA has developed the Residu Recurs exchange platform, where companies willing to buy and sell by-products, wastes and secondary raw materials can register and match-make their interests. Residu Recurs provides a secure and efficient environment to negotiate with other users and transform wastes into resources & economise on critical raw materials, including PGMs.

Role in the project

COC CATALONIA will carry out project activities in Catalonia, including a) developing the Report on regulatory barriers and enablers (T2.3) for the emergence of territorial ecosystems for the substitution of PGM in vehicle catalysts, by analysing data from all partners, and b) collecting data for WP2 activities to describe the stakeholders & requirements, and the regulatory framework for the implementation of the INNOCAT approach in this region. Furthermore, COC CATALONIA will select one vehicle and proceed with its retrofitting using INNOCAT technology (WP3), organise one matchmaking event (T4.2) to promote commercialisation partnerships around the INNOCAT technology, and provide input for the formation of a kick-start funding scheme for the aforementioned technology (T5.3).

Contribution to knowledge building in the region

COC CATALONIA is a key partner for the commercialisation and the development of a territorial ecosystem around catalyst retrofitting and PGMs’ substitution in Catalonia because they have access to all aspects of the regional knowledge triangle and policy making system. Through the Residu Recurs exchange platform, COC CATALONIA have already developed commercial and research partnership focusing on iron steel and alloys, stainless steel & plactics mix, and hydrocarbons, bitumen and mineral oil / lubricants. Thanks to their access in major policy makers and market stakeholders in the entirety of Catalonia, COC CATALONIA have the potential to repeat this process and spread knowledge and information for PGMs substitution in catalysts of publicly owned vehicles.
